County Office Building
City of Charlottesville

Description and Features

The project involved renovation of an existing bank processing/office building (original construction complete in 1998) for use by Albemarle County.  Our scope of work included field survey and drawing research, as well as preparation of design documents and construction administration.  While most of the renovation work consisted of revising existing spaces for new layouts, an existing Warehouse area was converted over to a 2-story office area.  Spaces included areas for 24 hour a day dispatching and emergency operations.  Fire protection design included modification to an existing pre-action sprinkler system and adding an FM-200 non-aqueous suppression system for a computer server area.  HVAC design effort included re-use of the building ice storage/chiller water system and the addition of (2) new air-handling units [variable air volume (VAV) with variable frequency drives] for the warehouse conversion.  Electrical design included power, lighting, and emergency power revisions, as well as incorporating data, phone, security, fire alarm and CCTV system revisions into the existing building systems.
